What moves the probability
Match status and score
If the match is already underway or finished, the price mechanically reflects the scoreboard rather than a forecast, which explains a reading this close to an extreme. This matters more than any pre-match form line once play has started.
Retirement or default clause
Under the settlement rules, any mid-match retirement, default, or disqualification hands the win outright to the player left on court. That single clause means physical status can override the entire run of play in an instant.
Single-venue pricing
Polymarket is the only venue listed for this contract, so the price reflects one pool of positions rather than a cross-market consensus. That makes the number more sensitive to a handful of large trades than a multi-venue market would be.
Best-of-three format
Masters 1000 men's matches are decided over three sets, so a player can lose the first set and still be the eventual winner. Early-set results move sentiment quickly but do not settle the contract until the match itself ends.
ATP's official record as the sole source
Resolution rests on ATP Tour's official scores page, with credible reporting only as a backup. Any delay in that page reflecting the final result can leave the contract trading before formal settlement even though the outcome may already be known on court.
The case for
- Arthur Fils has to win the match outright under ATP's official scoring, in straight sets or after recovering from a set down.
- Fils has to remain fit and finish the match himself, since any retirement or default on his part hands the win to Cobolli regardless of the score at that point.
- The result has to be logged by ATP Tour before the 29 August 2026 resolution date for the contract to settle on the actual outcome rather than the 50-50 fallback.
The case against
- Flavio Cobolli only needs to win by any legitimate means recognized by ATP, including a retirement or default in his favor, before 29 August 2026.
- The market's current pricing, at an extreme low for Fils, already treats this as the expected outcome rather than a genuine toss-up.
- If the match is postponed, cancelled, or delayed more than seven days, the contract does not resolve on the tennis result at all โ it splits 50-50 under the stated rules.
